THE SONG OF THE WIND
The winds sing that Hashem’s will is unseen, yet unstoppable.
[Song 18] Wind (Ch. 2)
The Wind is saying, “I will say to the north, 'Give up'; and to the south, 'Do not withhold; bring My sons from far, and My daughters from the ends of the earth.'”
Commentary
Agents of Hashem’s will, winds move unrestrained to perform the desire of their
Creator. They play an essential role in the process of precipitation and in the
dispersing of plant seeds for propagation, amongst many other benefits to the
world. They sing of Hashem’s limitless control of His world, and especially the
awesome in-gathering of exiles, portrayed as winds speedily bringing in ships of
His people back home from the ends of the earth.1
When we determinedly fulfill the will of the Almighty without bending and
compromising, the whistle of the wind becomes powerful divine music.
LIVING WITH THE SONG
When He willed the Jewish nation to be scattered in exile they did so “like the four winds” in all directions. It will occur
that same way but in the opposite direction in the future when He calls for the final in gathering of exiles from the
corners of the world. In the Garden of Eden, too, the scents of pleasure will be brought by the winds. The winds
therefore sing of Hashem’s limitless power and control.1
